Zombie Apocalypse playset at Walgreens

The amount of time I spend making "a quick trip" to Walgreens seems to be second only to time spent sleeping or waiting for the Redbox to free up. But sometime I find something that makes it worth it. Tonight was one such time.

Zombie Apocalypse army men playset by Imperial Toys! Finally, the zombie hoard comes to the toy aisle. The set includes some generic army men, a couple of tanks, a jet, a stealth bomber and the reason we all came to the party...zombies!

There are 6 unique zombie figures. A generic walker, a ghoul with a bone, a football player throeing a brain, a farmer with undead chicken, a ghoul holding his guts and a zombie walking like he escaped the Thriller video shoot.

The set is a ton of fun. The zombies have a nice level of detail in the sculpts.

A no-brainer for $6.99. These are in the toy aisle, among the holiday stock (among the buy 2 get 1 free stuff)

New Halloween wind-ups at Walgreens

Its that magic time of year where the temperature drops and scary things invade the store shelves. This year Walgreens has rubbery jiggly windup zombies plus windup eyeballs!

The zombies looked to have 4 different styles, in a few color combinations.

Friday the 13th Jason prop hockey mask!

I'm not sure if these are old news or not. But if you're a Friday the 13th fan and have always wanted a prop replica Jason hockey mask to hang in your collection, head to eBay. I assume these are for the upcoming Halloween season. Anyway, I took a chance and picked one up for $12, shipped and couldn't be happier. Nice quality with a faux weathered paint job and the red accents. It has a 3 rivit button strap (there are two unused ones that i easily popped off with a flat head screw driver).

It's the best I've seen outside of the $70 customs and doesn't break the bank.

DVD review: Protector 2 and Ong Bak trilogy blu rays

I was surprised with review copies of the upcoming Tony Ja blu ray releases for The Protector 2 and the box set Ong Bak trilogy last week.

First up, I checked out The Protector 2. Tony Ja really needs to microchip that elephant, cuz he get taken again (this time by the RZA). The action goes big and cartoony with a rooftop battle with a dozen bikers. Rhe mayhem takes to the streets when about 150 more show up. Lots of CGI stunts and action, which is a shift from the original.
But after, the initial set piece, the films settle into more traditional, practical action (still some CGI, but not as dramatic at the bike gang stuff).
It's a fun romp with some exciting action. Not as visceral as the original, but still a great modern martial arts action movie.

As for the Ong Bak trilogy, the boxset looks to be a repackage of the individual blu releases. In fact, the UV digital code that came with part 2, expired in 2012.
I rewatched part 2 and it looks and sounds great on blu. So, check out the boxset if you passed on them the first go around.

If you're a martial arts fan then then end of July will be a good time. Both releases come out July 29 from Magnet.

Dvd review: Under the Skin

Under the Skin (2014)
The folks at Lionsgate were nice enough to share a screener copy of "Under the Skin" with me to review on the site. It's a lovely piece of art house science fiction. Beautifully shot and well acted. It's nice seeing Scarlett Johanson doing roles like this. It reminds you that she is a very accomplished actor.

The film comes out July 15th on digital, dvd and blu ray. Check it out if you like a slow burn, character study with a sci-fi slant.
