That Looks Cool: Week 4 "Lunatic" from the anime "Tiger & Bunny"

Week 4 is upon us. This week's character is "Lunatic" from the anime "Tiger and Bunny".

I actually watched the first couple of episodes of this show earlier this year on Hulu. It's a lot of fun; sort of a superhero reality show from what the first episodes set up. It's one I've been meaning to revisit. Lunatic is new to me. I assume he shows up later in the series (looks very villainous, but don't know that for sure). Love the design and had a good time drawing him.

Chris Ralston Brings It On again, Kirsten Dunst-style, with his take on Lunatic! Be sure to check out Chris other artwork and comics at http://www.r10creations.com/

If you'd like to take a crack at drawing this dude, email me your rendition at matt@grindhousecomics.com!

That Looks Cool: Week 2 "Cybermen" from Doctor Who

"That Looks Cool" Week 2 is upon us. The inspiration for this week's sketch blog theme is this killer Doctor Who "Cybermen" bust. I don't know much about Dr. Who, but I know bad-ass lookin' robots when I see 'em.

Here's my rendition (above)

Comic artist extraordinaire and all around good dude,
Chris Ralston,
sent me a legion of Cybermen, guaranteed to cause
Dr. Who to make shepard's pie in his knickers!

Check out Chris' comic, "The Third Rail", at r10creations

And for a second week in a row, artist Jon Frank blows the walls off the house with a propaganda-style Cybermen poster.

Bad-assery abounds this week!

If you've got a Cyberman inside you aching to get out, email your rendition and a link to your site (if you have one) to me at matt@grindhousecomics.net and I'll get added to the weekly gallery.

Until next week (which theme is "They Flying Dutchman" from Spongebob Squarepants), keep watching the skis!... I mean skies...

"Vintage Newspaper Ads-O-Rama!"

From the darkest depths of the Geektarded Periodicals Department and right in time for Christmas comes:

"Vintage Newspaper Ads-O-Rama!"
FEATURING:
Children's Palace

The first CP ad for Omaha, NE

A trio of ad pages from the last day the Omaha CP store was opened. This was Easter Sunday. On Monday, the store never reopened, the staff was informed that morning they were out of work and the store stock was packed up and shipped to other locations. The end of a legend (at least in my mind)
